Yellow Flame Tree — Golden Flowering Trees in Perth
If you're looking for a fast-growing, show-stopping feature tree for a large Perth garden, the Yellow Flame Tree (Peltophorum pterocarpum) is one of the most spectacular options available in WA. With massive sprays of golden-yellow flowers bursting across the canopy in late summer and autumn, it creates a breathtaking display that's visible from the street.
A Tree That Thrives in Perth's Climate
The Yellow Flame Tree is native to tropical and subtropical Asia and loves exactly the kind of warm, sunny conditions that Perth delivers in abundance. It's fast growing, frost sensitive when young, and absolutely thrives in WA's long, hot summers — making it one of the best-suited tropical feature trees for the Perth metro area and coastal suburbs.
With wide-spreading branches and soft, fern-like foliage, it also provides excellent cooling shade through the warmer months — a genuinely practical as well as beautiful tree for Perth properties.

Growing Yellow Flame Tree in Perth
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Water regularly during the establishment period, particularly through Perth's dry summers. Once established it becomes quite drought tolerant and requires minimal ongoing care. Prune lightly after flowering to shape the canopy and remove any lower limbs if clearance is needed underneath.
Avoid planting in frost-prone areas — young trees are frost sensitive, though established trees can handle occasional light frost.
